Health Informatics for better and safer healthcare

Doctors, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and other healthcare practitioners throughout the world are increasingly depending on health information technology, such as electronic health records, for their everyday responsibilities. Although health information technology has many benefits (such as individualized and precision therapy for everybody), it can also have unintended repercussions that hurt people.

Health practitioners must learn about existing systems' design and capabilities, while technical professionals (e.g., computer programmers) must comprehend the complicated healthcare demands and procedures in order to deliver on the promise of better and safer treatment through information technology. This course intends to fill up the gaps in health informatics education by introducing novice and advanced clinical and technical audiences to the key features of the subject.

Syllabus:

• This massive open online course (MOOC) aims to provide a survey of current and emerging health information technology trends to a diverse and international audience of health practitioners, students, managers, administrators, and technical experts (e.g., computer programmers or user interface architects), and researchers.
• The course is organized into 11 units and lasts for 4 weeks. Participation in all 11 courses and submission of a final project earns you a certificate of completion. A weekly commitment of around 3 hours of study and participation in course-related projects is expected. The course's ultimate grade will be determined by the completion of the weekly quizzes (100 percent of the grade).
