The Baptist Convention of Hong Kong established Hong Kong Baptist College in 1956 as a post-secondary institution dedicated to providing whole-person education. Hong Kong Baptist College was designated as a fully funded public tertiary institution in 1983. In 1994, it was given university status and renamed Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU).
Today, HKBU is made up of eight Faculties/Schools that provide a variety of undergraduate, associate degree, and higher diploma programs, as well as taught postgraduate and research postgraduate programs leading to master's and doctorate degrees. It takes pride in its dual concentration on teaching and research, as well as encouraging staff and students to participate in community service.
