The University of Hong Kong
On March 30, 1911, the University Ordinance established the University as a self-governing body of scholars in Hong Kong. Queen Mary Hospital was founded in 1937 and has functioned as the University's teaching hospital ever since. There were four faculties before the onset of World War II, which put an end to academic activities. They were Arts, Engineering, Medicine, and Science. Internationalisation, innovation, and interdisciplinarity are hallmarks of the University of Hong Kong, Asia's Global University. Through excellence in research, teaching and learning, and knowledge exchange, it recruits and nurtures worldwide academics. Through its global reach, regional relevance, and involvement with the rest of China, it offers a beneficial social impact.

The University Research Committee (URC), a Senate committee chaired by the Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor, oversees HKU's research strategies and policies (Research).
