Hyundai Group is the next name ranked in the list of the largest South Korean companies today. The first company in the group was established in 1947 as a construction firm. Chung Ju-Yung and his family members quickly expanded into other businesses with government aid, eventually becoming South Korea's second chaebol. Chung Ju-Yung was the company's only owner until his death in 2001.
Following the 1997 Asian financial crisis and the death of founder Chung Ju-Yung, the corporation split off many of its most well-known companies, including Hyundai Motor Group, Hyundai Department Store Group, and Hyundai Heavy Industries Group. The Hyundai Group is currently concentrating on elevators and Mount Kumgang tourism.
Hyundai Motor Company, which, along with Kia, forms the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group, manufactures Hyundai-branded automobiles. Hyundai, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, maintains the world's biggest integrated vehicle manufacturing facility at Ulsan, capable of producing 1.6 million units per year. Around 75,000 employees work for the firm worldwide.
