Pico Bonito National Park, the nation's largest and most magnificent forest reserve with more than 250,000 acres of virgin forest, is where the majority of hikes in Honduras—both independent and led—take place. The park contains seven diverse ecoregions, ranging from lowland coastal jungles to high-elevation cloud forests on peaks rising to 8,000 feet. A favorite activity in the Copan region is hiking in the woods and taking historical tours. Although hiking in the Pico Bonito forest might be your only activity for the entire trip, most tourists combine it with other activities.
