Indigenous culture
Like in most other nations, Honduras' popular culture is conveyed more through popular events that draw large people than it is through complex artistic achievements. Such artistic and cultural activities take place in Honduras on particular days of the year and on festive occasions. Punta is a kind of music and dance that Hondurans joyfully perform together.
Hondurans hold carnivals, fairs, and parades all year long to commemorate their national festivals and other noteworthy occasions. For instance, the yearly carnival in La Ceiba lasts for a week and has special food, music, and art exhibits before culminating in the nation's most well-known carnival: "The Carnival of Friendship." San Pedro Sula's Feria Juniana (June Fair) features exhibitions, sporting events, and musical performances throughout the week. The August fair at Puerto Cortés has a "Venice" theme, complete with gondola and other boat parades on the bay and a nighttime fireworks display shot from boats.
Honduras, a largely Catholic nation, places great emphasis on the ceremonies of Holy Week. Processions are held throughout the country in places like Comayagua, Choluteca, Copán, and Intibucá, particularly on Thursday and Good Friday. By acting out the events that took place during the week between Palm Sunday and Jesus Christ's crucifixion, Hondurans honor the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for humanity through these activities.
