Iman

Iman Abdulmajid is a model, supermodel, actor, and businesswoman from Somalia. She is known for her charity efforts and has been a model for designers such as Gianni Versace, Thierry Mugler, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, and Yves Saint Laurent. She was married to David Bowie, a rock singer, from 1992 until his death in 2016.

Iman was spotted by American photographer Peter Beard while still at university and came to the United States to pursue a modeling career. Her first modeling job was for Vogue in 1976, a year later. She quickly established herself as a supermodel, appearing on the covers of some of the world's most famous magazines. Iman was an instant hit in the fashion industry thanks to her long neck, towering stature, thin physique, exquisite features, and copper-toned complexion, despite the fact that she maintains her appearance as just Somali. Many well-known designers, including Halston, Gianni Versace, Calvin Klein, Issey Miyake, and Donna Karan, used her as a model. Yves Saint-Laurent adored her and once described her as his "dream woman."

Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, and Annie Leibovitz are among the photographers with whom Iman has collaborated. Iman appreciates the support she received from many designers giving her the confidence she needed to succeed in an era where individualism was prized and model muses were frequently used in the creative process.
