Linda Evangelista
Linda Evangelista is a Canadian supermodel who rose to prominence in the 1990s. She has been on over 700 magazine covers and is acknowledged as one of the most accomplished and influential models of all time. Evangelista is well known for being photographer Steven Meisel's "muse" for many years, as well as the expression "We don't wake up for less than $10,000 a day." She holds the distinction of having appeared on the cover of Vogue Italia on the most occasions, all of which were shot by Meisel.
Evangelista's modeling career began in 1984 after she relocated from Canada to New York City and signed with Elite Model Management. In 1988, Evangelista got her hair chopped short at the advice of photographer Peter Lindbergh. The "Linda" hairstyle not only inspired countless imitators throughout the world but also enhanced Evangelista's career and ushered in the age of the supermodel.
Evangelista was one of the most renowned women in the world during the late 1980s and early 1990s dubbed the "chameleon" of the fashion business and a significant character among the five supermodels. Evangelista, unlike her peers, has chosen not to explore other fields outside of modeling. She left her job in 1998 and returned three years later, although only on a part-time basis this time. In 2008, viewers of the television show Fashion File elected her "The Greatest Supermodel of All Time" for her modeling achievements.
