Ivan Kupala
Kupala Night, also known as Ivana-Kupala, is a traditional Slavic holiday that is commemorated on the shortest night of the year, which falls on June 21-22 or 23-24 in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia, and on July 6–7 in Eastern Slavic countries, according to the Julian calendar (Belarus, Russia and Ukraine). It is the polar opposite of the winter holiday Koliada. The festival commemorates the summer solstice, the shortest night of the year, and incorporates a number of Slavic rites. Herb gathering, campfire lighting, and river bathing are all part of the ritual.
To commemorate the summer solstice, the Ivan Kupala event is held. According to legend, anyone who finds a Fern blossom at this time will be blessed with a great deal of fortune, luck, and power. In fact, there is a custom of couples in love testing their relationship by jumping over a flame to prove their bravery and faith. Slavic religious ideas have affected the festival's genuine beginnings.
