Knoword

Knoword is a wildly popular online vocabulary-building game. While the website is not designed exclusively for ESL students, it is an excellent location to practice vocabulary and word association. You select a difficulty level in the "Level Up Your Vocabulary" option (easy, medium or hard). Because the game is intended for native English speakers, the easy level is more akin to an intermediate level. To begin the game, you are given a word definition and the initial letter of the word. The missing word must then be typed. You can view your answers and summarize the vocabulary at the conclusion of the game. Set a time limit for an added challenge.

There are additional "packs" for learning. These are vocabulary cards based on a specific theme. There are approximately 1,000 packs available, with topics ranging from physics to history to the arts. Some packs allow you to type in the word or select it from a selection of various options. The packs are created by app users and might help you master many aspects of the English language. One pack, for example, teaches irregular verbs in English. If you're attempting to learn a certain language, you can search through the packs to see if you can discover one that will help you.
