Kusu Island
Kusu Island, or Pulau Kusu in the native language, is surrounded by a beautiful fringing reef. The government has established a 5-mile marine protection zone surrounding Pulau Kusu and the neighboring islands. Commercial fishing boats are not permitted in the area. This reclusive island located at St John’s Island, 6 kilometers away from the mainland, is a cozy spot for beginners to try their hand scuba diving away from the prying eyes of tourists. The shallow dives at Kusu Island offer spectacular views of hard and soft corals. Spot anemonefish, parrotfish, and turtles within the corals too.
The spectacular undersea world inside this protected region has everything imaginable, from gigantic fish like tunas, dolphins, whales, mantas, and sharks to large schools of fish and smaller creatures like pygmy seahorses. The reefs are alive with hard coral gardens, lush colorful soft corals, and gorgonians. Walls, slopes, tunnels, caves, overhangs, seagrass beds, and underwater pinnacles abound in the seascape.
