La Boqueria
La Boqueria is not only the best indoor market in the world but also the largest indoor market in Spain and the most popular market in Barcelona. It is located right at the Ramblas – the main boulevard of the city. Fresh food products are sold here: fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, and seafood. La Boqueria is hardly a new market – it dates back to the beginning of the 13th century. Back then it was an outdoor market located in front of one of the gates to the old city wall. It became an indoor market in the 19th century.
A trip to Barcelona would not be complete without a visit to La Boqueria, the city's most famous public market. Colorful stalls line the vast, covered space, offering heaps of fruit, fresh seafood, and rows of hanging chorizo.
