Lake Coatepeque
Lake Coatepeque was 50,000 years old, was formed by a volcano, is situated 18 km south of Santa Ana, went through a period of intensive activity that culminated in a big explosion that left a huge vacuum has a radius of more than 20 km, is two kilometers deep, and marks the start of a protracted process of storing rain and ground. A lake forms out of the water. Around the lake, more than 20,000 people reside, and on average, 5,000 tourists go there each month.

It takes only 20 minutes to go there from Santa Ana and an hour and a half to drive there from San Salvador (both longer by bus). By car, it's extremely simple to get to the lake. It takes around an hour to go there from Santa Ana and 2.5 hours to get there from San Salvador. Head to either San Salvador or Santa Ana first as both cities are the closest to Lake Coatepeque.
