Lake Olomega
Approximately 18 square kilometers (7 square miles) in size, Lake Olomega is a terrarium found in the agricultural region of southern El Salvador. The lake's shoreline is home to roughly 25 settlements, the largest of which, Olomega, has about 4,000 residents. Seasonal residents that heavily rely on tourism can be found all around the lake. Although they don't operate as frequently, direct buses to Olomega can be taken, or you can get out at El Carmen (a town right off the highway) and wait for a truck to take you to Olomega. You can take a small boat to tiny Los Cerritos Island for between $15 and $40 USD. Your best option for a 30-minute trip costs US $10 one-way in a taxi.
It's amazing to go fishing in a location that is significant to the locals while swimming in the emerald, green seas and taking in the fresh air with family and friends. A drainage system for the nearby volcano is called Laguna Olomega. Laguna's status as a sanctuary for migratory birds twice a year deserves special mention. There is also a regular fishing season in this area, so if you have the chance to visit around that time, you will be able to witness the lively scene of the fishermen rowing the boat with enormous catches.
