Lake Elk

Freshwater lake Ek Lake is located next to the town of Ek in Poland's Warmia-Mazury Province's Masurian Lake District. The lake has a surface size of 3.82 square kilometers and was formed by glaciers during the Pleistocene ice age. Its maximum depth is 58.2m, with an average depth of 15m. The northern ("small") and southern ("big") halves are divided by narrows that are connected by a bridge. The lake, which receives its primary feeding from the Ek River in the southwest, empties into Lake Sunowo in the northwest and Lake Szarek in the southwest.

Lake Elk is unique in some way. Perhaps it is due to the way the water appears to change color with the passing of the seasons or the way the thick forest envelops it like a shield. Whatever the cause, this well-kept secret among tourists is a local favorite in the Masurian Lake District and a hidden jewel.

The lake is alive with activity in the summer, with kayaks dotting the coastline and tourists lounging on the grassy banks. Therefore, be sure to put Lake Elk at the top of your vacation list the next time you're seeking for a hidden gem.
