Lake Sarysu
With an area of 65.7 square kilometers, lake Sarysu is the largest natural lake in Azerbaijan located entirely within the country's territory. It is located in the Kur-Araz Lowlands of the country. The freshwater lake extends about 22 km from Imishli Rayon to Sabirabad Rayon. Lake Ağgöl is the mainstream of lake Sarysu. A canal from the former leads to the latter. The canal also receives rainwater and groundwater. Large marshes and other wetlands are found along the lake's shores. Lake Sarysu has an average depth of only 0.5 m and a maximum depth of 6.05 m. The lake is home to many fish species and is rich with vobla and carp. Hundreds of migratory birds also visit Lake Sarysu. This is a real expansion for birdwatching fans. In addition, the lake has many different types of fish and is used for fishing.
Lake Sarysu is the sole source of subsistence for many inhabitants of the surrounding villages. People catch wild birds and fish, for themselves or for sale. Lake Sarysu is a freshwater lake that offers stunning views and lots of wildlife. Traveling here can be challenging for even the most adventurous traveler, but the views and unspoiled terrain are well worth the effort. Therefore, lake Sarysu deserves to become one of the best lakes to visit in Azerbaijan.
