Lung Yai Thai Tapas
Lung Yai, one of the Best Thai Restaurants in Miami, is the place to go if you're up for an intense dining experience, both mentally and physically. Chef Bas is in charge of this well-kept secret in Little Havana, and he can be equally scary and hospitable. Lung Yai prepares some of the best Thai food in the city with the assistance of the chef. Period. Additionally, it is open on the weekends until two in the morning. There are several guidelines to remember. You are to sign your name on a list outside the door and then calmly wait for a table. Avoid hanging out in the dining room or waltzing up to the bar to place a beer order. However, once you are seated, just let loose. Everything is mouthwatering.
You wouldn't expect to find good Thai food on Calle Ocho. Yet there it is—the unassuming, homey structure on 8th Street that stands out loud and proud and serves the best Thai food in the area. Thai tapas are prepared by Chef Veenuthtapon Trisransri (also known as "Bas" by us locals). Red, green, panang, and massaman are all types of curries. Also, don't overlook the yum ped, a salad of crispy duck with cashews, pineapple, chiles, and a hot lime dressing. But hold on! You didn't get the spicy pork broth, tofu, shiitake mushrooms, and crisp yet tender pork belly in the palo moo soup. The warning: It's against the rules to place more than one order, so take your time and make sure you're completely prepared.
