Maynooth University
Maynooth University, often known as the National University of Ireland, is a constituent university of the National University of Ireland in Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland. It was Ireland's newest university until Technological University Dublin was launched in 2019, as it was established by the Universities Act, 1997 from the secular faculties of the now-separate St Patrick's College, Maynooth, which was founded in 1795. Maynooth is also Ireland's lone university town, with all other universities located in cities.
The institution is made up of two connected campuses: an older southern site with 19th-century buildings that are shared with St Patrick's College, and a modern northern campus that spans around 100 acres and is separated by a public road. It is Ireland's smallest, yet fastest expanding, university, with over 13,000 students and over 900 staff from over 20 different countries.
The main campus of the institution is located on the main road connecting Maynooth and Kilcock. There are two campuses: North Campus and South Campus. Until mid-2011, the campuses were joined by a footbridge that bridged the road. Due to the construction of a library extension on the South Campus, the footbridge was decommissioned. On Kilcock Road, there is currently a pedestrian crossing that connects the two campuses. Rye, Village, River, and Courtyard are the four buildings on campus that provide on-campus housing.
