NUI Galway
The National University of Ireland Galway (NUI Galway) is an Irish public research university based in Galway. It is one of Ireland's best universities. The university was founded in 1845 as "Queen's College Galway" and until 1997, it was known as "University College Galway" (UCG).
The Coimbra Group, a network of 40 long-established European universities, includes NUI Galway. NUI Galway is home to a number of important research institutes. The NUI Galway Designated Research Institutes are distinguished by significant interdisciplinary and high-quality research activity, as well as extensive national and international collaboration. NUI Galway is home to six designated Research Institutes.
Galway University Foundation was founded in 1998 with the goal of raising funds for NUI Galway from private persons and institutions. It cultivates partnerships with donors who are drawn to NUI Galway's educational philosophy. The Foundation is working on a number of "Priority Projects". The James Hardiman Library of the National University of Ireland, Galway (previously Queen's College Galway) has been renamed.
