Moon Embracing the Sun (2012)

Moon Embracing the Sun is a South Korean television drama series that premiered in 2012. It stars Kim Soo-hyun, Han Ga-in, Jung Il-woo, and Kim Min-seo. It aired on MBC from January 4 to March 15, 2012, at 21:55 on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The historical-fantasy drama is based on Jung Eun-gwol's novel of the same name. It depicts a touching love tale between a fictitious Joseon Dynasty monarch and a female shaman, as well as the tensions and conspiracies of competing for political powers.


Heo Yeon Woo, the thirteen-year-old daughter of a high-ranking official, travels with her mother to the royal palace to attend her brother Heo Yeom's civil service examination congratulations event. She meets Crown Prince Lee Hwon by coincidence. They fall in love, and Yeon Woo is chosen as Joseon's Crown Princess. However, before they can marry, the Dowager Queen covertly orders her death in order to place Yoon Bo Gyeong, the daughter of a family clan, as Crown Princess, giving herself greater authority. She directs the chief shaman to lay a curse on Yeon Woo, inflicting her with a mysterious illness.


Yeon Woo is raised from her grave after dying, but she loses her memory. Crown Prince Lee Hwon, who refuses to love another, believes she is dead. Yeon Woo reappears eight years later as Wol, a shaman (meaning moon). Meanwhile, after witnessing the grown-up Wol, the young king begins to investigate his love's demise. But he's up against the clock since the queen's strong political clan wants him deposed.
