That's new: This past March, renowned NYC cocktail bar Mother's Ruin secretly established a Chicago location and presented one of the city's best double cheeseburgers. You ask how? On pillowy toasted brioche bread, top two freshly crisped smash patties with a hefty slice of cheese, a handful of crispy shredded iceberg lettuce, a few dill pickle chips, some zesty onions, and a drizzle of tangy special sauce. The deal is only made sweeter by a side of mouthwatering waffle fries with an Old Bay seasoning and an amazing drink menu of Mother's Ruin — get the Negroni on tap. This is five-napkin area, so beware.

When you want to meet up for cocktails but don't want to commit to a full dinner but still want the opportunity to have some food, Mother's Ruin in Avondale is a wonderful choice. The excellent bar snacks include deep-fried red velvet Oreos, a pretty good smash burger, and pimento cheese with fried saltines. The cocktails are all $12, the food is far better than it needs to be, and although the place is full, it doesn't feel crowded. Additionally, the kitchen is accessible 24/7 until at least 2am.
