MRT Corporation

The MTR Corporation has the aspiration of being a major international corporation with a mission to connect and grow communities through providing caring service. In 1975, the Mass Transit Railway Corporation (later shortened to MTR Corporation) was founded with the aim of constructing and operating an urban metro system in accordance with reasonable commercial principles. This was done with the intention of assisting Hong Kong in meeting its requirements for public transportation. The Company was reorganized and renamed the MTR Corporation Limited in June of the year 2000. On December 2, 2007, the activities of the Government-owned rail operator, the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation, were integrated with those of the MTR. This marked the beginning of a new era in the growth of the Hong Kong railway system.

The MTR Corporation is now responsible for the operation of 10 railway lines, a Light Rail network, an Airport Express link, and a brand new High-Speed Rail service that connects Hong Kong to the Mainland of China. MTR is considered as one of the world's premier railway operators for safety, dependability, customer service, and cost-effectiveness. And it would be missed if not has its name on the list of the largest companies in Hong Kong by market cap. The company serves an average of more than 5.8 million people daily.

In addition to the operation of its railways, the MTR Corporation is now engaged in a variety of other commercial activities today. These include the leasing and management of commerce malls, advertising media, the construction of residential and commercial property projects, property management, and the management of shopping malls, as well as providing communications services on trains and in stations.
