Nafplio
Nafplio is located southwest of Argos, on the east coast of the Peloponnese, and its port is considered the most important in the Argolic Gulf. It can be said that Nafplio is one of the most beautiful cities in Greece. It was also the first capital of modern Greece in the 19th century.
Nafplio captivates people from the rugged cobblestone streets to the ancient castles hundreds of years old, from the romantic cafes along the harbor to the white stretch of coastline curled in the golden sun. Walk along the quaint town's cobblestone alleyways to soak up the Venetian and Ottoman Nafplio scene. Visit the city's archeology museum to discover the land's Mycenaean history. And don't forget to make time to visit the three most famous fortresses in the region, Palamidi Fort, Akronafplia Fort, and Bourtzi Castle.
On the way out of the city, make sure to go to the Epidavros Theater. It is one of the places where preserve all of the ancient Greek architecture. Plays are still held here as part of the Athens & Epidavros summer festival. On the way back to Athens, you can stop at the Silo Art Factory, a gallery of works by Stelios Maragos.
