Namu Gaji
Dennis Lee is without a doubt the pioneer of Korean fusion cuisine in San Francisco. His food is a unique, savory, and San Francisco rendition of Korean food, from his now-legendary Korean tacos (available at the Ferry Building on farmers market days), served on the nori and topped with kimchee salsa and remoulade, to his seasonal, farm-driven variations on traditional ingredients at Namu Gaji. Other ethnic influences may be seen in his meals, but his versions of Korean fried chicken, bibimbap (a stone pot rice bowl topped with gochujang and an egg), and housemade pickles are standouts.
Namu Gaji, an elegant, sake-loving Korean cuisine business that's a takeout window by day and a woodsy dating place by night, is set to debut on Dolores Street on Saturday. On a beautiful day, this is where you'll fill your picnic basket en route to the park. Alternatively, come here with your date after sunset to warm up over rare sake bottles. Start with the Dolores sliding glass window, which leads into the kitchen. You'll order fried chicken and okonomiyaki, which are popular street foods near the Ferry Building. Alternatives to ice cream include sake-infused shaved ice.
