Nanumanga

Nanumanga, also known as Nanumaga, is a reef island and a district of Tuvalu, an Oceanian island republic. It has a population of 491 people and a surface area of around 3 km2. The main village settlements of Tonga and Tokelau, the mangrove forest around the interior lagoons, and regions of general vegetation, including coconuts, pandanus trees, and other plant types, make up the Nanumaga environment.

Two brackish-water lagoons exist, the biggest of which, Vaiatoa, with four islands. The larger Vaiatoa Lagoon lies in the north, while the smaller Ha'apai Lagoon is in the south. While snorkeling allows you to get a glimpse of what's beneath the surface, scuba diving is the only way to truly immerse yourself in Tuvalu's aquatic environment.

There's more to see on Tuvalu's atolls than simply turtles, coral reefs, and tropical fish (though seeing them is quite wonderful). The ruins of an earlier village were discovered submerged in the water in the late 1980s. On a scuba diving adventure from Funafuti, you may explore the caves known as the "fire caves." It is considered to be one of the Best Diving Sites in Tuvalu.
