National University of Singapore
The National University of Singapore persistently ranks among the best universities in Singapore. Through teaching, research, and service, a major global university centered in Asia is changing the way people think and do things. The National University of Singapore, which began as a small medical school with only 23 students in 1905, is now known for pioneering education and cutting-edge research that has impacted the community in Singapore and abroad. Education, research, and entrepreneurship are all approached from a global and Asian perspective. Our research in engineering, science and technology, health sciences, and the humanities and social sciences is particularly well-known at the university.
Since 1980, the enormous 150-hectare Kent Ridge Campus has served as NUS' main campus, housing the majority of the University's academic, research, and administrative buildings. With student dorms, sports facilities, and places for arts and cultural activities, it is also a lively hub of student life. University Town (UTown), a Kent Ridge Campus expansion, provides a unique residential college idea as well as a variety of educational and recreational areas for interaction, peer learning, and personal growth. Yale-NUS Institution, Singapore's first liberal arts college with a complete residential curriculum, is also located in UTown.
