Netflix Inc. is a global video-on-demand data transfer service and paid DVD rental in the United States, where DVDs and Blu-ray discs are emailed by Permit Reply Mail. The company was founded in 1997 and is headquartered in Los Gatos, California. The company started its paid subscription service in 1999. As of 2009, Netflix owned a collection of 100,000 DVD titles and more than 10 million subscribers.

On February 25, 2007, Netflix distributed its 1 billion DVD. As of mid-April 2021, Netflix reports over 208 million users globally, including 73 million users in the United States and Canada. The company first launched data transfer services in the international market in 2010 and continued to expand into 130 new territories in January 2016
