Ngurtafur Beach
Ngurtafur Beach, in Maluku Province's southeast corner, is known for its breathtaking natural beauty. The snow-white sandy beach has the appearance of a spit that spreads for two kilometers into the sea from the Varbal island and has a width of seven meters, giving the impression of a little uninhabited island.
Ngurtafur is also known for its crystal pure seawater, which allows visitors to observe coral reefs and other aquatic life without wearing a mask. Because of the shallow water, the temperature is always pleasant. Locals and visitors alike agree that this beach is perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
April to May and October to December are the best months to visit Ngurtafur. This is owing to the pleasant weather and gentle waves that prevail during these months. Because there is no infrastructure on the beach, it is recommended that you bring drinks, snacks, and an umbrella.
Aside from the amazing flora, this beach is home to leathery turtles, which are extremely rare in the wild and are even protected by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund). Ngurtafur is also home to pelicans that migrate from Australia to Maluku. Because birds are terrified of humans, they visit early in the morning when the beach is still desolate.
