Pink Beach

Pink Beach, or Pantai Merah, is one of only seven pink beaches on the earth, and is just one of Komodo Island's many unique features that make it a true Natural Wonder of Nature. Microscopic creatures called Foraminifera, which create a red pigment on coral reefs, give this remarkable beach its distinctive color. The locals refer to it as Red Beach because of this. The gentle pink color seen along the shoreline is created when the tiny shards of red coral mingle with the white sands. Aside from Pink Beach, a few minor sections of Komodo's eastern bay are pinkish.

The underwater gardens of Pink Beach are in superb shape, with hundreds of species of soft and hard corals, as well as thousands of fish. Pink Beach is an excellent choice for snorkelers and beginner divers, as the shallow waters are home to a diverse range of creatures that will keep you delighted for hours.

Of course, the further you go, the more there is to view. Relax and work on your tan on the fairy tale like pink sands. Alternatively, try one of the many other water sports offered, such as kayaking or a relaxing swim. It's important to remember that this is an uninhabited island that also happens to be the natural habitat of the Komodo Dragon. Keep a safe distance from the creatures if you observe them on the beach or in the water. Komodo Dragons are strong swimmers who can even travel between islands. Because Komodo Dragons are wild animals that can be hazardous to humans, visiting this beach without the assistance of an expert guide or ranger is not recommended.4
