Nitehawk Cinema
Nitehawk Cinema, located in Brooklyn, New York City, is a dine-in independent movie theater. It has two locations in the Williamsburg and Park Slope neighborhoods. The theater, which serves a menu of food and drinks that can be ordered and consumed while patrons watch movies, was the first liquor-licensed movie theater in the state of New York, as well as the first in New York City to offer table service. This Brooklyn venue shows new indie films as well as a robust retro program. Each theater has a full-service restaurant, and the downstairs Lo-Res bar is open late. In 2011, Nitehawk overturned a Prohibition-era state liquor law that prohibited the sale of alcoholic beverages in theaters, becoming New York's first dine-in theater.
Nitehawk does not screen advertisements during its preshow, instead showing a montage of clips that are customized for each film; for instance, the preshow for Nitehawk's screenings of The Favourite included clips from Olivia Colman's comedic work and Yorgos Lanthimos' short films. In addition to its standard menu, Nitehawk offers a special menu for brunch screenings, and limited-time menu items inspired by the current slate of films it is screening.
