Nonsuch Island
Nonsuch Island is part of the Castle Harbour Islands Nature Reserve, which is located in St. Georges parish on Bermuda's eastern coast. Nonsuch Island is Bermuda's most important place for rare and endangered species and habitat conservation.
Nonsuch Island is one of the first examples of ecological restoration anywhere, with a project underway for more than 50 years to restore a full ecosystem, including all of its associated plant and animal populations in their respective habitats. Dr. David Wingate, Bermuda's first conservation officer, created and maintained this project from 1962 until his retirement in 2000, when it was taken over by Jeremy Madeiros. It is nothing less than an attempt to restore a small piece of Bermuda to what it would have looked like before humans found and inhabited the island in terms of vegetation and fauna.
Location: Northeast of Bermuda.
