North-South Lake
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation runs North-South Lake, a 4.4 km2 state campground in the Catskill Forest Preserve near Palenville, New York, close to the location of the famed Catskill Mountain House with a view of the Hudson River. At 685.8 m or 518 m above the valley level, the cliff where the lakes are situated offers a clear-day vista over five states.
At North-South Lake State Campground, the biggest and busiest lakefront campground in New York State, you'll be surrounded by breathtaking views from every direction (and for good reason). The North-South Lake campground, which can be found in Catskill Park's northeastern section, contains more than 200 camping spaces and is close to the historic Catskill Mountain House, which provides stunning panoramas of the Catskill Mountains and Hudson River.
You've come to the perfect location if you love to fish. Chautauqua Lake has angling competitions every year and is well recognized for its excellent bass, muskellunge, and walleye fishing. At one of the marinas nearby, you may rent a boat—whether it's motorized or not. At Prendergast Point, Bemus Point, Long Point State Park, as well as Mayville Lakeside Park and Lakewood, you can launch boats from public launches.
The area's most well-known destination is Chautauqua Institution, a non-profit educational facility that experiences increased summertime activity. Take classes in the humanities, religion, and leisure. Or go to one of the many performances, which include opera, dance, and theater.
