One of the most famous Carnivals in the world
The Mazatenango Carnival is a vibrant event annually in the community of Mazatenango, municipality of Suchitepéquez. Since 1885, there have been carnival celebrations in the neighborhood. The earliest celebrations included activities in the central square where people played with streamers, confetti, and eggshells. The first masked ball, however, did not take place until 1893.
The Carnivals of Mazatenango are a fantastic, vibrant festival geared toward the entire town's populace. Everyone is welcome to participate, and the organization is considering events for both adults and kids. It also features the appropriate coronation of the queen, as well as sporting events, dances, religious celebrations, the sale of handicrafts, flower games, and the Grand Parade. The procession that travels through the town's main thoroughfares is the centerpiece of the celebrations.
