Parasite

Bong Joon-ho, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Han Jin-won, directed the 2019 South Korean black comedic thriller Parasite. Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik, Park So-dam, Jang Hye-jin, and Lee Jung-eun appear in the film, which follows an impoverished family who plots to join an affluent family's household by acting as unrelated, highly qualified persons.

Bong Joon-Parasite ho's is a dark dramedy thriller that, because of its unique narrative, is possibly unmatched in last year's Oscar competition. The film follows a lower-income family in South Korea as they gradually infiltrate an affluent family's home through housekeeping jobs, illustrating an intellectual reflection on capitalism.

Following its Academy Awards success, Parasite received significant rescreening, generating significant further revenue. The Associated Press reported the biggest "Oscar effect" since 2001 after Gladiator won the Oscar for Best Picture. Parasite's box office revenue increased by more than 230% compared to the prior week, grossing $2.15 million in a single day. It also ranked No. 1 in Japan, the first Korean film to do so in 15 years.
