Pat Summitt

Patricia Susan Summitt (June 14, 1952 – June 28, 2016) was an American women's collegiate basketball head coach who retired with 1,098 career victories, the most in the history of the sport. From 1974 through 2012, she was the head coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team.


Pat Summitt was a member of the inaugural class of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999. In the year 2000, she was selected the Naismith Basketball Coach of the Century. She was ranked 11th on the Sporting News' list of the 50 Greatest Coaches of All Time in all sports in 2009, and she was the only woman on the list. President Barack Obama awarded Summitt the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012, and the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2012 ESPY Awards. She was recognized into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2013.


Her determination propelled her to great success, and she rose to become one of the highest-paid sports coaches in the world and has an estimated net worth of $8 million.
