Pico Bonpland

Pico Bonpland, at 4,883 meters above sea level, is one of the highest mountains in Venezuela. It's in the Venezuelan Andes, in the Sierra Nevada de Merida (Mérida State). The Sierra Nevada National Park protects the mountain, as well as its sister peak, Pico Humboldt, and the adjacent páramos. The peak is named for Aimé Bonpland, despite the fact that he never visited the Venezuelan Andes.

The glaciers in the Bonpland are the product of the Pleistocene Merida glaciation. They had all vanished by 2011.

The park is busiest during the dry or summer months. Although it is cooler, the weather is better. This season lasts approximately from December to April. Winter lasts from late June until late September, with a lot more snow. Although the weather is not ideal, the mountains are far more gorgeous and interesting. Late September is the ideal time of year to go climbing because the weather is improving and there is still enough of snow.
