Pigeon Racing is Leading to Divorces in Indonesia

Although incredibly popular in Indonesia, pigeon racing appears to be a source of marital conflict. It has been suggested that the popularity of pigeon racing in one region of Indonesia is to blame for an upsurge in divorce petitions.

Sports like dog and horse racing are still pretty well-liked in the West among both casual watchers and gamblers. Pigeon racing is what keeps the crowds captivated in countries like Indonesia all around the world. Pigeon racing gamblers can go too far, just like those who wager on horses.

Officials in Indonesia first noticed an increase in the number of divorces with pigeon racing listed as a cause in 2017. It was becoming intolerable for many relationships when husbands bet and lost money on pigeons, and this appeared to be a major factor in the petitions. However, gambling wasn't the sole factor. To the dismay of their wives, some men just devoted all of their time to breeding and training their own pigeons as the sport gained popularity.
