Plage du Peuple
Plage du Peuple is located in Goma, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Kivu province. This little sandy beach is popular with families with small children and is a great place to spend a fun beach day. Lake Kivu's water is tranquil and safe for children to swim in, and there is a playground for them to enjoy. You are welcome to bring your own food and have a picnic in the sand. Because the beach is so small, it can get crowded on busy days, especially on weekends.
The creation of this area is the product of a collaboration between the Provincial Government of North Kivu, through its Ministry of Planning, and the Fund for the Consolidation of Peace (FCP).
Despite the fact that the German Cooperation funded all of this work, no amount was disclosed to the public on this occasion. Julien Paluku, who got this book from the Goma Municipality, asked for its proper management. He stated that access to this infrastructure will be free, but under the sole supervision of the municipality, which will then decide the terms of access to this public place.
As a reminder, a National Deputy elected from the city of Goma recently condemned the takeover of this portion of the People's Beach by a person deemed "powerful" by the community.
