Portal 2
Valve Corporation created Portal 2, a puzzle platform game. In April 2011, it was released for Windows, OS X, Linux, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Valve's Steam service distributes the digital PC version, while Electronic Arts distributes all retail versions. The player, like in the original Portal game (2007), solves puzzles by placing portals and teleporting between them. Tractor beams, lasers, light bridges, and paint-like gels alter the player's movements and allow portals to be placed on any surface in Portal 2. The player controls Chell in the single-player campaign, which modifies the Aperture Science Enrichment Center during its reconstruction by the GLaDOS supercomputer. New characters include robot Wheatley (Stephen Merchant) and Aperture founder Cave Johnson (JK Simmons). In the new cooperative mode, players solve puzzles with each other like the robot Atlas and P-Body (both voiced by Dee Bradley Baker). Jonathan Coulton and The National composed the songs for this game.
In March 2010, Valve announced Portal 2 and promoted it with alternate reality games such as Potato Sack, a collaboration with several independent game developers. Following the release of the game, Valve released downloadable content as well as a simplified map editor to allow players to create and share levels. Portal 2 received praise for its gameplay, learning curve, pacing, dark humour, writing, and acting. Many publications and critics have called it one of the greatest video games of all time.
