  1. Red Dead Redemption is a third-person action-adventure video game released on May 18, 2010, for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 by Rockstar Games. It is, in theory, a sequel to Red Dead Revolver. The majority of the game's content takes place in 1911 and revolves around the main character, John Marston, a former outlaw who has returned to his salary. The authorities took away his wife and son in order to take advantage of Marston. He is forced to bring his three former accomplices to justice because he has no other option.

The game has received positive feedback from both the community and critics. Red Dead Redemption is rated 95/100 on Metacritic, 94 percent on GameRankings, and 9.3/10 on GameStats, making it one of the highest-rated games of all time. The game also received numerous awards in the "Game of the Year" category from various gaming magazines and portals. When playing as John Marston, the player can interact with the environment and engage in combat with familiar cowboy weapons such as the "6-shot" pistol, rifle, shotgun, knife, axes, TNT, cannons, and even a six-barreled Gatling Gun. A horse is the primary mode of transportation in the game. To be able to use horses, the player must first tame them. Each species of the horse has different parameters. In addition, Marston can also board the train to travel more conveniently and quickly, but he can stop the train by threatening the passengers and the driver.

  2. FromSoftware created the Dark Souls series of action role-playing games. The series' high level of difficulty has been both praised and criticized. The games are set in a dark, medieval fantasy world where the player's character battles knights, dragons, phantoms, demons, and other monstrous or supernatural entities. The accumulation, loss, and recovery of souls are central to the Souls games' narrative and gameplay. Another recurring theme is the demise of a once powerful and prosperous kingdom: for example, in the setting of Demon's Souls, Boletaria, in which the player attempts to stop the spread of a demon-infested fog that threatens to consume the world.

The Dark Souls trilogy's plot differs in that it revolves around the player's attempts, through various means, to either reverse or perpetuate the spread of a curse of undeath known as the "Darksign", which prevents true death but causes the undead's gradual descent into madness and decay known as "Hollowing", based on the player's decisions. These games are linked by their setting and an overarching cyclic narrative centered on fire, and they are linked to their predecessor Demon's Souls by shared themes and elements, such as interactions with phantoms and battles with demons. At the end of each game, characters can either reignite the "first flame" or let it fade, reiterating a decision made by others before them, which becomes a plot point in and of itself.

  3. Grand Theft Auto V is an action-adventure video game released in 2013 by Rockstar North and Rockstar Games. After Grand Theft Auto IV, it is the fifth installment in the Grand Theft Auto series (2008). The single-player mode's plot revolves around three main characters: retired bank robber Michael De Santa, street gangster Franklin Clinton, salesman Opium, and arms smuggler Trevor Philips, as well as the heists they carried out under pressure from a government agency and other criminals. The open-world design allows the player to freely explore both the San Andreas countryside and the fictional city of Los Santos (based on Los Angeles).

Players in Grand Theft Auto V can walk or drive vehicles to move around the game using the third or first-person perspective. In single-player mode, the player controls and can switch between the three main characters, regardless of whether they are on a mission. The plot revolves around heist missions, with driving and shooting gameplay featured in many missions. The "wanted" system will make decisions about how law enforcement will respond to the player's actions. Grand Theft Auto Online, the online multiplayer mode of Grand Theft Auto V, allows 30 players to participate in a variety of cooperative and competitive missions. The player embarks on a quest consisting of linear situations with a predetermined goal to advance the plot of the game. When not on a mission, the player can freely explore the open world in the game, including two areas, the countryside of San Andreas, including Blaine County, and the city of Los Santos.

  4. Valve Corporation created Portal 2, a puzzle platform game. In April 2011, it was released for Windows, OS X, Linux, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Valve's Steam service distributes the digital PC version, while Electronic Arts distributes all retail versions. The player, like in the original Portal game (2007), solves puzzles by placing portals and teleporting between them. Tractor beams, lasers, light bridges, and paint-like gels alter the player's movements and allow portals to be placed on any surface in Portal 2. The player controls Chell in the single-player campaign, which modifies the Aperture Science Enrichment Center during its reconstruction by the GLaDOS supercomputer. New characters include robot Wheatley (Stephen Merchant) and Aperture founder Cave Johnson (JK Simmons). In the new cooperative mode, players solve puzzles with each other like the robot Atlas and P-Body (both voiced by Dee Bradley Baker). Jonathan Coulton and The National composed the songs for this game.

In March 2010, Valve announced Portal 2 and promoted it with alternate reality games such as Potato Sack, a collaboration with several independent game developers. Following the release of the game, Valve released downloadable content as well as a simplified map editor to allow players to create and share levels. Portal 2 received praise for its gameplay, learning curve, pacing, dark humour, writing, and acting. Many publications and critics have called it one of the greatest video games of all time.

  5. LittleBigPlanet 2 is a puzzle-platform game that features user-generated content. The game is developed by Media Molecule, and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for PlayStation 3. It was released in January 2011. It is a direct sequel to LittleBigPlanet (2008) and the third game in the series following a PSP version (2009). Most of the more than 3 million levels created by users in the first game carry over and are playable and editable in LittleBigPlanet 2. Unlike its predecessor, which was marketed as a platform game, LittleBigPlanet 2 was marketed as a "platform for games".

While the original title retains the three-layer, 2.5D nature, with the player controlling their Sackboy characters, players are not limited solely to platforming levels, but can also create racing, puzzle, and role-playing games. Players can now create cut-scenes to go with their level design, manipulate the camera for both cutscenes and gameplay, and record their own sound effects for use in the level thanks to new animation recording options. The game includes a robust music sequencer as well as a large selection of original and licensed music. Multiple levels can be linked together so that completing one takes the player directly to the next. A new tool to assist in gameplay creation is the "Controlinator". This allows players to assign specific actions, such as button presses or Sixaxis motion control, to specific aspects of their gameplay design. Players are not restricted to using the Controlinator on level elements. In addition to this tool, more gameplay items, similar to the Metal Gear Solid paintball gun released as downloadable content.
