Puma

Puma SE, a brand of Puma, is a German multinational corporation that designs and manufactures sports and casual footwear, apparel, and accessories, headquartered in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria, Germany. Puma is the third-largest sportswear manufacturer in the world. The company was founded in 1948 by Rudolf Dassler. In 1924, Rudolf and his brother Adolf "Adi" Dassler jointly created the Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik (Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory). Relations between the two brothers deteriorated, and in 1948 the two brothers agreed to separate and create two separate companies, Adidas and Puma. Both companies are currently based in Herzogenaurach, Germany.

Puma is a publicly traded company listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since 1986. French luxury group Kering (formerly PPR) owns 9.8% and the largest shareholder Kering Groupe Artemis owns 29% of the equity capital. The company has been headed by former professional footballer Bjorn Gulden (CEO) since July 1, 2013.

As of 2017, Puma SE employs more than 13,000 people worldwide and sells products in more than 120 countries. After a split with his older brother in Rudolf, it initially registered the newly formed company as Ruda (derived from Rudolf Dassler because Adidas was based on Adi Dassler), but later changed the name to Puma. The original Puma logo consisted of a square and a beast that jumped over a D registered as a company name in 1948. Puma footwear and apparel designs include the Puma logo and the distinctive Formstrip introduced in 1958.
