Qt Group

The Qt Company is a Finnish software development firm situated in Espoo. The name is pronounced "cute" and the company was originally known as Trolltech and Quasar Technologies. It manages the Qt Project, where its application framework is being created. It originated from Digia's purchase of Qt and subsequent separation of that business into its own publicly traded entity.

Its headquarters are in Oslo, Norway, and it has major research and development and engineering operations in Berlin, Germany, and Oulu, Finland. The Qt Group maintains offices in China, Finland, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Norway, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, and India.

The business offers software development services, including both consultation and frameworks. Qt, a C++ framework for creating graphical user interfaces (GUIs), is the company's flagship product. Bindings for other languages, such Python, make Qt accessible to a wider audience than just C++ app developers. Data structures and a networking framework are just two of the packages available in Qt. The Qt library is used in the widely used, free, and cross-platform KDE Plasma desktop environment for program compilation. Several KDE developers are also on staff at this company.

Trolltech released its Qt-based Qtopia operating system in 2001. Qtopia is an open source software platform for Linux-based mobile phones, portable media players, and home theater PCs. It's also widely employed in things like medical equipment and factory machinery. Their Greenphone smartphone is based on the Qtopia Phone Edition, which was released in 2004.
