Reduce the risk of kidney stones
Grapefruit consumption may lower your chance of getting kidney stones, which are caused by an accumulation of waste products in the kidneys. These waste materials are metabolic byproducts that are normally filtered via the kidneys and excreted from the body as urine. When they solidify in the kidneys, however, they form stones. Larger kidney stones can induce a urinary system obstruction, which can be excruciatingly painful.
Calcium oxalate stones are the most prevalent form of kidney stone. Citric acid, an organic acid found in grapefruit, may help prevent them by binding with calcium in the kidneys and draining it out of the body. Furthermore, citric acid can raise the volume and pH of your urine, creating an environment that is less conducive to the production of kidney stones.
