Ruthenium (Ru) is a chemical element with the symbol Ru and the atomic number 44. Ruthenium is a rare transition metal that belongs to the Platinum group and was discovered in 1844 at Kazan State University by Russian-born physicist Karl Ernst Claus.
Ruthenia is Latin for Rus', hence he named the element Ruthenium in honor of Russia. Ruthenium is most typically found in ores containing other platinum group metals in North and South American mountains. It's found in a variety of electronic gadgets and equipment.
