Saana

Saana (Sána in Northern Sami) is the second-highest mountain in Finland. The peak of Saana is 1,029 meters (3,376 feet) above sea level and 556 meters (1,824 feet) above the nearby Kilpisjärvi lake, making it one of the highest mountains in Finland. It is geologically part of the Scandinavian Mountains and is composed of the same schist and gneiss rock. The Sami people have long considered the mountain to be sacred. Because of the wide views from the summit, the mountain is a popular location for hikers and backpackers.

The Saana route begins at the Malla Nature Park parking lot and leads to the top of Saana and back. The views from the top are spectacular, and you may experience the Saana stairs along the way. In clear weather, the views stretch all the way to the Lyngen Fjord. The optimum months to visit this path are from May to October.

There is a variety of mountain greenery, wildlife, and the Saana outcrop to see in the region. The path is indicated with orange poles and signs at crossroads. The slope contains 150 steps and a shelter, toilet, and wood storage along the way. You are not permitted to spend the night in the hut.
