Sanath Jayasuriya
Deshabandu Sanath Teran Jayasuriya, well known as Master Blaster, is a former Sri Lankan cricketer and captain. He was born on June 30, 1969. With his explosive batting with Romesh Kaluwitharana in the mid-1990s, Jayasuriya is credited with revolutionizing one-day international cricket, ushering in the modern-day batting strategy of all nations. Jayasuriya is regarded as one of the best offensive batsman of all time, with a reputation for tremendous striking and match-winning all-round performances across all formats. Jayasuriya was a Sri Lankan all-rounder with a two-decade international cricket career. In One Day International cricket, he is the only player to score over 10,000 runs and take over 300 wickets.
Despite not playing in England the previous season, he was chosen the Most Valuable Player of the 1996 Cricket World Cup, and Wisden Cricketers' Almanack named him one of the Five Cricketers of the Year 1997, breaking an age-old tradition. From 1999 to 2003, Jayasuriya was the captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team.
