School of Visual Arts

A private, for-profit art school in New York City is called the School of Visual Arts New York City (SVA NYC). A member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design from its founding in 1947. This is one of the best Art Classes in NYC.


The Cartoonists and Illustrators School was founded in 1947 by Silas H. Rhodes and Burne Hogarth. It had three instructors and 35 pupils, the majority of whom were World War II veterans who received substantial financial aid through the G.I. Bill. The School of Visual Arts was given a new name in 1956, and it started awarding degrees in 1972. A Master of Fine Arts in painting, drawing, and sculpture was introduced in 1983.


There are about 1,100 faculty members at the school, and there are over 3,000 students overall. It is recognized by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools' Commission on Higher Education. It offers 22 graduate degree programs in addition to 11 undergraduate ones.

SVA
, as it is often known, is one of the best professional art schools in the nation and offers dozens of continuing education courses in every conceivable contemporary art-related topic. Not only are there classes on how to paint, for example: There are also classes on art history, critical thinking, video, and even using genetic engineering to create art!
