Select Oyster Bar
This welcoming seafood restaurant, hidden inside a Back Bay brownstone, has a sizable raw bar menu that is sure to please. Sit down at the Select Oyster Bar counter to savor some of the best shellfish available. Slurp down those delicious oysters among other seafood tower specialties like dressed Maine lobster and shrimp cocktail. The comprehensive wine list is filled with grapes that pair well with oysters, from a crisp, sparkling brut rosé to a dry, acidic txakolina. Select is perfect for a full, multicourse meal, but it's also great if you simply want to stop over for a few cocktails and oysters.
Seafood enthusiasts are drawn to chef-partner Michael Serpa's first solo venture, a townhouse-like enclave in the Back Bay. Michael Serpa was formerly of Neptune Oyster. East and West Coast oysters, peekytoe crab salad, dressed Maine lobster, and more can be found on the excellent raw bar menu. (Celebrations choose to provide lavish seafood towers.) The famous blue prawns a la plancha and "taverna style," entire roasted sea bream are the clearest examples of how the menu frequently combines New England seafood with Mediterranean cooking methods. The wine list gets extra points because it frequently has orange wines and a sparkling rose that pairs well with seafood.
