Solheimasandur Beach
Solheimasandur Beach is a large place of sand and gravel on Iceland's South Coast, between the internal cliffs and the modern beach. It was formed by massive glacier bursts that swept from the slopes to the beach. Solheimasandur Beach is only ten minutes away from Iceland's the Skogafoss Waterfalls.
The beach is also home to a plane disaster, therefore, it is definitely enough to attract you to explore. You may easily hike up to the plane wreck that lies on Iceland's Black Sand Beach. Don't worry, there is no tragic narrative behind this plane accident; everyone on-board survived, making this visit even more special. The plane disaster at Solheimasandur Beach is about 4 miles back and forth from the Ring Road. Wear appropriate footwear when visiting this beach, as you will be walking on rocky black sand on your way to the wreck. The DC-3 plane wreckage is one of the most striking sites on Sólheimasandur.
