Stevland Hardaway Morris (born May 13, 1950) is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and record producer better known as Stevie Wonder. Wonder is regarded as a pioneer and influenced by performers in a variety of genres, including rhythm & blues, pop, soul, gospel, funk, and jazz. His employment of synthesizers and other electronic musical instruments as a virtual one-man band throughout the 1970s changed R&B norms. He also contributed to the genre's transition into the album period, creating his LPs as complete, consistent socially concerned statements with intricate songs.
Stevie Wonder is one of the world's most successful composers and artists. He is regarded as a pioneer of genres such as R&B, Funk, Rock, Pop, and Soul due to his early use of electronic instruments. He has sold over 100 million recordings and has 25 Grammy nominations. He is in every Hall of Fame and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was even appointed a United Nations Messenger of Peace, a first for a musician. He received many honorary degrees, including a Doctor of Music degree from Yale University.
